Each season we strive to hire a team of positive, outgoing and friendly people. Everyone agrees to check their egos at the gates, pay attention to the teaching that happens in order to become part of an awesome team whose priority is to provide a memorable holiday for guests. At the same time, you will live life in gorgeous Algonquin Park (canoe, hike, swim, see moose) and make many new friends. There are a number of positions available in all departments. You must be able to work until THANKSGIVING MONDAY in October – start dates are flexible in May and June. You must be able to live on site. Accommodation and meals is provided on the grounds. We accept foreign applications however you must have legal permission to work in Canada.
IMPORTANT: Please be advised that although you may be interviewed for and may spend the majority of your time in one position, Arowhon staff work in all departments depending on business requirements. Everybody helps out!
OFFICE RESERVATIONS AGENT
Front line, warm and welcoming personality for busy front office – upbeat telephone manner, accurate computer skills, attention to detail, cash balancing including credit cards, communication with other departments, answering email inquiries, wedding room assignment, planning and billing. Previous experience is required.
DINING ROOM SERVER
Front line, well groomed, efficient and friendly – serving meals all shifts, breakfast, lunch and dinner. A quick learner with great attention to detail and able to work as part of a team. Previous experience is required.
DINING ROOM BUSSER / HOST(ESS)/ PANTRY
Well-groomed, efficient, friendly - assists with food service, maintains the ‘buffet’, answers guest food-related questions, communicates clearly with cooks and helps buss, host, etc. Energetic and a fast learner! Previous experience is an asset.
Front line, well-groomed, efficient, friendly - rain or shine, your prime responsibility is taking care of guests starting with a warm welcome in the parking lot, transporting luggage to rooms via a golf cart, assisting the housekeeping department by stripping linen and making beds, vacuuming, etc. Duties include all outdoor chores including garbage pickup, supervising boats and waterfront, laying fires in the cabins, painting, cleaning, gardening. A valid driver’s license is an asset. Previous experience is an asset.
This physically fit team cleans guest rooms, bathrooms and lounges, does laundry chores, provides evening turndown service, etc. You must work quickly and efficiently to meet deadlines, and have a great attention to detail. Housekeepers also occasionally assist with baby-sitting duties. Previous experience is an asset.
We welcome serious culinary students with good knife skills who are eager to learn. This is mostly a ‘Prep’ position, you must be able to follow recipes without variance, strive for consistency and work under supervised, busy conditions. Previous experience/education required.
Dishwashing, potwashing, cleaning the kitchen, putting away food product, etc. The importance of a super clean, sanitized and organized kitchen is of the utmost importance – which is this department’s prime responsibility! Previous experience is an asset.
Salary is dependent upon experience. Two to three years in a fast paced, quality kitchen is required. You must have excellent knife skills and are able to follow recipes. Attention to detail is mandatory, consistency is the key to our success. Positions are available in our hot and cold kitchen. Food is prepared with care, made from scratch using local, seasonal ingredients. Breakfast, lunch and dinner service daily and there are outdoor barbecues & weekend buffets.
First year entry level hourly staff will earn $15 per hour paid throughout the season PLUS a CONTRACT COMPLETION BONUS (CCB) ranging from $ 1.00 to $ 4.00 per hour. For experienced, skilled and career-minded service applicants and supervisors, wages will be discussed based on experience and education.
Most staff pay $ 60 per week for “accommodation and meals” - private room and private or shared bathroom. There are a few larger rooms for couples or friends who wish to share. Meals are also provided.
